14 Day Safari - Safari and Beach Days 1 + 2 Nairobi - Maasai Mara Morning arrival in Nairobi. Drive to the world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve. During your two days in the Maasai Mara, experience the "Big Five" - elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo as well as plains game. Days 3 + 4 Maasai Mara - Lake Naivasha After an early morning game drive, onward journey to Lake Naivasha. Enjoy a boat ride to Crescent Island where you can wander amongst herds of gazelle, zebra, waterbuck and giraffes. You can also enjoy hiking or cycling through Hell's Gate National Park with its looming cliffs and gorge - home to a variety of bird and animal life. Overnights at Lake Naivasha Country Club. Days 5 + 6 Lake Naivasha - Lake Nakuru - Sweetwaters Morning drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. This relatively small park offers abundant wildlife, spectacular scenery and thousands of pink flamingoes. The chances of seeing white rhino and leopard here are high. After lunch drive to Sweetwaters Game Reserve - set between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares. Here you can visit a chimpanzee reserve or meet Kenya's tamest black rhino "Morani". Game drives are indeed a pleasure and night game drives thrilling and unforgettable. Overnights at Sweetwaters Tented Camp. Days 7 - 14 Sweetwaters - Nairobi - Mombasa After breakfast drive to Nairobi, transfer to the airport for your flight to Mombasa - the start of your weeks beach holiday at the Kenyan Coast. Days 6 + 7 Lake Nakuru, Lake Victoria/Kisumu, Kakamega Forest After a morning trip to Lake Nakuru National Park, the onward journey takes us through Kericho - Kenya's "tea" capital to Kisumu. Kisumu boasts Western Kenya's biggest and best market - judge for yourself or go on a boat trip along Lake Victoria's shoreline. From here a day trip to Kakamega rain forest. Overnights Imperial Hotel. Days 8 + 9 Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria Drive through the stunning scenery of the Kerio Valley to Lake Baringo. Enjoy the peaceful oasis of the Lake Baringo Club. Days 10 + 11 Sweetwaters Game Reserve Sweetwaters Game Reserve is set on a private ranch, facing Mount Kenya and accommodation here is in luxury tents. Visit "Morani" - Kenya's tamest black rhino or the chimpanzee sanctuary. The camp offers superior game viewing and specializes in night game drives. Overnights Sweetwaters Tented Camp. Day 12 Mount Kenya Short drive to Mountain lodge - a "tree hotel" set in the forest of the Mt. Kenya National Park. Nairobi Arrival in Kenya's Capital, Nairobi, where you will be met and transferred to the Landmark Hotel. Depending on time of arrival, visit a museum, tour the city or just relax and soak up the atmosphere. Overnight Landmark Hotel. Days 2 + 3. Maasai Mara Early morning drive through the spectacular Rift Valley, to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. It is undoubtedly Kenya's finest animal reserve, its vast plains teeming with wildlife. Here you can watch the herds wander across the Mara grasslands, followed closely by lion, leopard and cheetah. Visit a Maasai "enkang" or enjoy a balloon ride over the Maasai Mara. Overnights at Keekorok Lodge. Days 4 - 6. Mfangano, Rusinga & Takawiri Islands Early morning flight to Mfangano Island, from here a boat ride across to Takawiri Island. The Islands are located on Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world. Takawiri is a small island with unique white sandy beaches located just off Mfangano Island. Enjoy a day trip to Rusinga Island where Mary Leakey discovered the 5 million year old "proconsul Africanus" or rediscover the rock paintings on Mfangano Island or visit Ruma National Park. Overnights at Takawiri Island Resort. Days 7 - 9. Kisumu, Kakamega, Koru Morning boat trip to Kisumu City. Enjoy a visit to Kisumu's market, the biggest and best in Western Kenya, or to the Kisumu museum. Afternoon drive to "Kweisos House" situated on a 3000-acre private farm. Kweisos offers superb bird watching, fishing, walks and horse riding around the farm. From here enjoy a day trip to Kakamega Forest, a remnant of the true tropical rain forest which once spread west, covering Central Africa across the continent as far as the Atlantic. Overnights at Kweisos House. Days 10 + 11 Kitale, Saiwa Swamp, Mount Elgon Drive through the Nandi Hills, one of Kenya's tea growing areas to Lokitela Farm situated out of Kitale town. From here we will do day trips to Saiwa National park - home to the rare semi aquatic Sitatunga antelope, and to Mount Elgon - famous for its "Elephant caves" and forest vegetation. Overnights at Lokitela Farm. Days 12 + 13 Kerio Valley, Lake Bogoria, Lake Baringo Drive down the Kerio Valley through breathtaking scenery, to Lake Baringo, a fresh water lake in the Rift Valley. The natural environment is top of the agenda here and boat trips and bird walks are a must. Spend a morning at Lake Bogoria, marvel at the thousands of Flamingoes and the hot springs. The scenery is spectacular and very different to Lake Baringo. Overnights at Lake Baringo Country Club. Day 14 Nairobi Journey back to Nairobi. Kenya & Kilimanjaro Trekking At 5199m Mt. Kenya is Kenya's highest mountain and Africa's second highest mountain. Trekkers can reach the third highest peak, Point Lenana, as no climbing experience is needed. Batian and Nelion, Mt. Kenya's highest peaks can only be reached by mountaineers with technical skills. At 5896m snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Uhuru Peak is the goal, and you can walk all the way to the summit without any ropes or climbing experience. It is important to be physically fit and be aware of the problems of altitude sickness. Day 1 - Morning arrival in Nairobi. Drive to Naro Moro, which offers a spectacular view of Mt. Kenya. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing for tomorrows climb. Overnight Naro Moro River Lodge. Day 2 - early morning drive to the Met. Station and commence your climb using the Naro Moro route, up the Teleki Valley, along the Vertical bog up to Mackinders Camp - 4160 metres. The trek takes about 4 ½ hours. Overnight Mackinders Camp. Day 3 - The trek to Point Lenana takes about 5 hours - so 02.00A.M. start to reach the summit of Lenana - 4985 metres in time to catch the sunrise. On a clear day Mt. Kilimanjaro is visible to the south, Mt. Elgon in the west and the Indian Ocean to the east. Overnight Mackinders Hut. Day 4 - After breakfast begin decent to the Met Station - giving you time to take in the scenery and alpine flora found here. Overnight at the Met. Station. Day 5 - Descend the last section of the mountain to the Naro Moro gate. From here drive to Nairobi. Relax at your hotel. Overnight Landmark Hotel. Day 6 - Early morning drive to the Tanzanian border post at Namanga. Soak in the impressive view of Mt. Kilimanjaro from Marangu Village and spend the rest of the day preparing for the climb. Overnight Marangu Hotel. Day 7 - Begin ascent from the Marangu gate, through dense semi-tropical rain forest to Mandara Hut at 2700m. The trek takes roughly 3½ hours. Overnight Mandara Hut. Day 8 - About a 6 hour trek through forest and a zone of giant heather near the start of the open moorland to Horombo Hut 3720 metres. The last few kilometres to the hut are fairly steep and uneven. Overnight Horombo Hut. Day 9 - Today's ascent takes between 6 hours along the western path to Kibo Hut at 4700 metres. After passing the landmark "Last water point" and crossing the saddle, which joins the 2 main peaks, Kibo and Mawenzi, the path joins with the steeper and rockier eastern path at Jiwe la Ukoyo (pointed rocks). Overnight Kibo Hut. Day 10 - very early and icy start from Kibo Hut . The path zig zags up to the craters edge and on to Gillmans Point - 5685 metres. This takes about 5½ hours. From here to Uhuru Peak it's about another 2 hours - arriving on the roof of Africa at 5895 metres. Descend down the Mweka route to Mweka hut - about a 4-hour trek. Overnight at Mweka Hut. Day 11 - After breakfast descend to Mweka Gate, about a 4-hour trek. From here drive to Arusha and spend the rest of the day relaxing! Overnight hotel in Arusha. Day 12 - Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport. Although you may still be feeling rather tired - we hope the memory of the view from the roof of Africa will accompany you for a lifetime! back to the list 14 Day Safari - Ornithological Tour of Kenya Day 1 Nairobi, Mount Kenya Early morning arrival in Nairobi. Drive to Mountain Lodge, situated on the slopes of Mount Kenya - Africa's second highest mountain. Mountain Lodge is a" tree hotel" overlooking a waterhole/saltlick which elephant, rhino and buffalo frequent. Day 2 Lake Nakuru National Park Early morning drive via Nyaharuru Falls, down the highland slopes to Lake Nakuru National Park, home to thousands of pink flamingoes and over 400 species of birds. Lake Nakuru National Park is world famous for its birdlife! Apart from the spectacular scenery and bird life, Lake Nakuru National Park is well known for its protection of endangered species such as, black and white rhino and the Rothschild giraffe. Overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge. Days 3 + 4 Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria Drive to Lake Baringo - a fresh water lake situated between the two walls of the Rift Valley. Lake Baringo's main attraction is the bird life. Kenya has over 1200 different species of bird and more than 450 have been sighted at Lake Baringo! Morning visit to Lake Bogoria - only 30KM south of Lake Baringo. It is one of the Rift Valley's many soda lakes and home to thousands of flamingoes and 150 recorded species of birds - the fish eagle being the predominant bird in the area. Bird walks and boat rides along the lakeshore are highly recommended here. Overnights Lake Baringo Country Club. Days 5 - 7 Kerio Valley, Koru, Kakamega Forest, Lake Victoria A picturesque drive through the Kerio Valley on to "Kweisos House" in Koru. The house situated on a 3,000-acre private estate. Here you can enjoy superb bird watching, walks, fishing or even horse riding. Day trip to Kakamega Forest, a relatively small patch of equatorial rain forest. The forest is a haven for over 350 species of birds and 45% of all recorded butterflies in Kenya. Day trip to Lake Victoria where you can enjoy a boat ride along the shoreline where bird life is abundant. Overnights at Kweisos House. Days 8 - 10 Maasai Mara Today's drive takes you on to Kenya's finest animal reserve - The Maasai Mara. Wherever you go in the Maasai Mara there are animals, and it is here that the chances of seeing Kenya's famous "Big Five" - elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo are highest. There are over 450-recorded species of bird in the Maasai Mara including 57 species of birds of prey. Enjoy exciting game drives, or a bird's eye view of the Maasai Mara while on a balloon flight. Overnights at Keekorok Lodge. Days 11 + 12 Lake Naivasha After a morning game drive, continue to Lake Naivasha, a fresh water Lake and home to an incredible variety of bird species. Visit Crescent Island - a bird sanctuary, where you can also wander amongst herds of impala, zebra, giraffes and other plains game. Explore Hell's Gate National Park either on foot or mountain bike. The park is an important breeding ground for vultures, Verreaux's Eagle, Augur Buzzard and home to over 103-recorded species of birds. Overnights at Lake Naivasha Country Club. Day 13 Nairobi After breakfast onward journey to Nairobi - back to reality! Evening meal at the carnivore restaurant - famous for its "all you can eat" charcoal grilled meat menu. Kenya Safari Club situated on the lower slopes of Mt. Kenya at Nanyuki. The course here is well maintained and laid out in one of the most beautiful settings in Africa. The 9 hole course is absolutely brutal and not to be dismissed as not challenging! Alternatives to golf include, a day trip to Sweetwaters Game Reserve, horse riding and trout fishing. Overnights Mt. Kenya Safari Club. Days 3+4 Mweiga Drive to the Aberdare Country Club on the slopes of Mweiga Hill. The club is located on a 1300 acre game sanctuary. The 9 hole golf course here is considered to be the "most rolling" course in Kenya. The course is unique in that it comes under some heavy wildlife traffic - baboons, warthogs, impala, waterbuck and eland! Alternatives to golf include, a day trip to the Aberdare National Park or Solio Ranch. Overnights Aberdare Country Club. Days 5+6 Rift Valley Drive to the Great Rift Valley Lodge on the northern side of Lake Naivasha. This is Kenya's latest addition to golf courses and is a challenging course to play! The views here are spectacular and the lodge offers various activities. Alternatives to golf include, boat ride to Crescent Island where one can wander amongst plains game or a visit to Hell's Gate National park. Overnights Great Rift Valley Lodge. Day 7 Eldoret Drive to Eldoret on the Uasin Gishu plateau, the altitude here is 2010 metres above sea level. This 9 hole course is well maintained - but - beware - it tends to be an expensive course…the rapid flowing Sosiani River twists its way through the first five holes and has swallowed many a number of golf balls over the years! Overnight Eldoret Club. Day 8 Kitale Drive to Kitale Club and enjoy the18 hole championship course. The course is lovely and challenging, particularly the first 9 holes. The course has more gulleys (dongas') than one person has probably seen together in one place as well as plenty of doglegs and long holes. The course vibrates with wildlife, the most common visitors being the vervet and colobus monkeys. Alternatives to golf, trip to Mt Elgon National Park or Saiwa Swamp National Park. Overnight Eldoret Club. Day 9 Koru Afternoon drive to "Kweisos House" situated on a 3000 acre private farm. Kweisos offers a variety of activities, horse riding, swimming, fishing, nature walks and superb bird watching as well as a look into life on a Kenyan farm. Kweisos House is centrally located for golfers, the house is within one hours drive of 2 very different 9 hole courses. Overnights Kweisos House. Day 10 Nandi Hills Drive to the Nandi Hills and tackle one of Kenya's most beautiful and unique 9 hole golf course. You will rarely find your ball on a flat lie and you will find yourself at all angles to your ball! The course is very difficult and very different as well as the greenest in Kenya. Alternative to golf, a day trip to Kakamega Rain Forest. Overnight at Kweisos House. Day 11 Kericho Drive to Kericho, located in the heart of Kenya's tea country. This 9 hole course has wonderful views of rows and rows of tea. The fairways here are some of the best in Kenya and practically every fairway has a gentle slope to it! The course is challenging and the best advice given by the locals is to go for the pin on every shot. Alternative to golf - a tour of a tea plantation and processing plant. Overnight Kweisos House. Day 12+13 Nairobi Drive back to Nairobi to tackle two very different 18 hole courses - Windsor and Muthaiga. Playing at Windsor Golf and Country Club you will be treating yourself to one of the greatest experiences in the game. The course has been carved out of indigenous forest, valleys, lakes and dams and is well maintained and challenging. Muthaiga Golf Club plays host to the Kenya Open and the African Leg of the European Challenge Tour. Muthaiga Golf Club is considered to have been one of Kenya's pioneer golf courses and is a pleasure to play. Alternatives to golf include: trips to either the Nairobi National Park, Karen Blixen Museum, National Museum of Kenya or the Giraffe Centre. Overnights Safari Park Hotel.
